About Us

Mortar + Moss began with a house. When we moved into our Georgian home, every wall, panel, and corner held a story. As we restored and developed the space, it became clear that this place would also shape a studio — one rooted in heritage, craft, and quiet detail

Our work started with objects. We sought out vessels and forms that carried a sense of history — stoneware, pottery, and found pieces marked by use, time, and material. These objects spoke not just of what they were, but of what they could become. From this came the idea of reimagining: giving each piece new life, whether kept as an enduring object in its own right, or transformed in our studio into a bespoke candle.

The candles themselves are born of this house. We created three scents — Midnight Ember, Panelled Oud, and Walled Garden — each inspired by a room, a corner, or a feeling within these walls. In bringing them together, we invite you to share in our home’s atmosphere, reimagined through objects and scent.

At its heart, Mortar + Moss is about more than what an object is — it is about what it can become.
